This 4-day hands on course is ideal for anyone who is interested in learning the science of latent fingerprint comparisons. Each topic is accompanied by practical exercises to reinforce the learned concepts. Students will learn the history of fingerprints and biology of friction ridge skin before moving on to learning about all 3-levels of detail in friction ridge impressions. In depth discussion and exercises on the major pattern types is included to lay a foundation for gaining expertise. Students will learn the ACE-V process of fingerprint comparison and GYRO method of marking minutiae as part of contemporaneous note taking. The week ends with a discussion on court testimony and notable court cases involving fingerprint evidence.
All exercises are completed digitally. A laptop is required to participate in the course.
